| Oda rejects poll suggesting Afghan support for NATO plummets
Canada's international development minister took issue with a new poll Monday that suggests Afghans are increasingly critical of the war in their country. Bev Oda, the minister responsible for the Canadian International Development Agency, dismissed the findings of the survey, which suggested support for NATO has plummeted the last year and the Taliban is growing in strength. .
Government cuts budget on backs of poor
Calling Korea "a failure" is inaccurate. Our armed forces were sent over there to defend South Korea from being over run by North Korea, not to reunite the two. Also, saying that the "liberals stopped us from winning" is absurd. With the horrors of World War II still fresh in our memory, fighting a prolonged and bloody war against the massive Chinese army in order to win would have been morally reprehensible and politically impossible. Finally, his claim that liberal ideology has caused "pain," "suffering," "death to innocents," and "costs lots of money" is illogical.Liberals freed the slaves, ended apartheid, passed civil rights laws, ended child labor, gave women the right to vote, ended abusive working conditions, made our food safer, our air cleaner and our lives better. Conservatives tried to stop all of those things.
It's a walkout!
When the United Auto Workers walked off the job at General Motors, one UAW local president told me he lost a bet. “I didn't think they'd walk out," says Art Baker Chairman of UAW Local 652 in Lansing. Given the progress that the two sides made since Friday (they came to a basic understanding on a big healthcare deal) you'd think Baker was the smart money. But in hindsight, here's another perspective. If this deal is really supposed to be the “historic" or “transformational" or “landmark" contract (feel free to fill in your own superlative description) that has been ordered up by every industry wag in Detroit, then a strike was a foregone conclusion. First, even if UAW President Ronald Gettelfinger can live with a slew of big concessions, he needs to strike up a bit of Kabuki to show his members that he hasn't just caved to management.
Bush recognizes Kosovo's independence
Turkey recognized Albanian Kosovar claims to intependence, and the next day invades Iraq's soveriegnty, chasing Kurds, and extinguishing their claims for an independant country as well. This is a hypocritical world. Where as always, Might is Right. He who wags the biggest stick, gets his way. The fact that serbs for decades have been driven out of this territory by Albanians is amazing, to the point that they are 95% now, and still claiming victimization is simply preposterous. .
Obama's victories draw more voter groups as Democrats waver
To clarify how Obama treats race, just look at his website, in the category of African-Americans. Says it all. Look through the pages. The reliance on proxies like his wife is photographically documented. His rhetorical reliance on blackness is apparent on the first page, where front and center feature words who's author is no doubt Axelrod: There is no better advocate for African Americans than Barack Obama. Barack knows your story, because it is his story. The causes that you hold dear have been the causes of his life. Barack has spent his entire career fighting for justice — as a community organizer in the streets of the South Side of Chicago, as a civil rights attorney, a constitutional law professor, an Illinois state Senator and a U.S. Senator. In Chicago Obama was charge with rape when he was 17 years old charges droped after his dad payed off some cops ???? Crucial to Obama's primary success, are his advisers unabashed beliefs that they can turn our hopes and emotions to their advantage.
